This sanctuary is located in RadhanagariTaluka of Kolhapur district in Maharastra.It is situated at the southern end of Sahyadri Hills in Western Ghats. This sanctuary was first notified in 1958 and declared as Dajipur wildlife sanctuary; however, later it became popular knowing as Bison Sanctuary. The most highlighting aspect of this sanctuary is that, rivers like Krishna River, Dudhganga River, Bhogavati River, Kallamma River, and Dirba River flow through this sanctuary.
There are about 47 species of mammals, 264 species of birds, 59 species of reptiles and 66 species of butterflies live in this sanctuary. The amphibians are very visibly seen during rainy season here. The population of Indian bison or gaur in this was sanctuary 610 in 20014. Some of the other mammals living in this sanctuary include sloth bear, barking deer, wild boar, mouse deer, wild dogs, sambar, giant squirrel and many others. This sanctuary is located at the southern end of Sahyadri sub cluster of Western Ghats and it lies between the catchment region of Rajarshi Shahu Sagar and Laxmi Sagar reservoirs in Radhanagritaluka.
The right and diverse flora and fauna is one of the main attractions of this sanctuary, which encourages the wildlife enthusiasts hugely. Some of the plants that are commonly found in this region are, Hirda, Anjani, Awala, Ain, Amba, Jambha, Katak, Nana, Chandala, Bibba, Gela and many others.
The Rocky Mountains and dense forests surrounding this sanctuary is an other key highlight that offers excellent opportunity to watch many wild animals in their own natural habitat as they roam around.
